Outcome
Checkout reduced to a single, asset-light step
The challenge
Four years of campaign plugins had left the store carrying assets on every request. Category pages ran uncached queries against a large attribute set, and the three-step checkout loaded the entire site bundle before a customer could enter an email address.
The strategy
We instrumented the funnel first, then rebuilt in order of revenue impact: catalogue queries and caching, product templates with conditional asset loading, and finally a single-step checkout that ships only what it needs. The design system was rebuilt as locked block patterns so campaign pages no longer required a developer.
Built around how the business actually works
The new front end is deliberately editorial: generous whitespace, large product photography and typography that lets the garments carry the page. Merchandising blocks let the team assemble a full lookbook landing page in an afternoon.
What changed
Lean checkout
Reduced to a single step carrying only checkout-critical assets.
Cached catalogue
Filter and category pages served from object cache instead of live queries.
Editor autonomy
Campaign pages now assembled in-house from locked block patterns.
